Ethics & Originality
1. Understand Licensing
Before using any open-source library or tool, please ensure you understand its license. Some licenses may require you to release your derivative works as open source, while others may be more permissive.
2. Attribute Properly
You can always give credit where credit is due. If you are using an open-source library or tool, could you make sure to put it in correctly according to the terms of its license? This often includes mentioning the author’s name and including a copy of the license.
3. Choose Reliable Sources
Ensure that the libraries and tools you choose are from reputable sources. Check for the number of contributors, how actively the project is maintained, and reviews from other users.
4. Keep Security in Mind
Please be careful of any security vulnerabilities in open-source libraries. Regularly check for updates and patches, and review the code, if possible, to ensure that it doesn’t contain any security risks.
5. Document Usage
Keep a record of all your libraries and tools, including their versions. This will help in attributing properly, debugging, and seeking help if needed.
6. Seek Community Support
Leverage the community around the open-source libraries and tools you are using. Engage in forums, ask questions, and even contribute if you can.
7. Respect Third-party APIs
If you are using third-party APIs, please be sure to respect their terms of service. This includes not overloading their servers, respecting user privacy, and adhering to any usage limits.
8. Focus on Solving Problems
While libraries and tools are there to help, focus on solving the actual problems. Don’t use a library just because it’s there; use it if it genuinely contributes to solving a problem effectively.
Remember, the goal of Tech for Good is to collaboratively work towards solving the problems of Coimbatore through technology. Let’s use these resources responsibly and effectively to make a positive impact.
Code of Conduct
Participants must adhere to a code of conduct that promotes a respectful and inclusive environment. Harassment, discrimination, or any form of negative behavior will not be tolerated.
